Biography

Edmund Caird is a graduate of the David Seligman Opera School at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, having studied with Eric Roberts. He previously completed an MMus in Vocal Studies; and studied Music at the University of Leeds, receiving First Class Honours.

During his studies he performed a number of operatic roles, including: Vicar (Albert Herring); Dandini (La Cenerentola); George Jones (Street Scene); and Spinelloccio (Gianni Schicchi).

Other operatic roles include: First Prison Officer (Dead Man Walking) for WNO; Innkeeper (The Cunning Little Vixen) and Ruggiero [cover] (La Liberazione di Ruggiero) for Longborough Festival Opera; Otis Gardiner in the Premiere of Jasper Dommett’s opera of Coram Boy; Companion (At the Boar’s Head) for Northern Opera Group; Count Almaviva (The Marriage of Figaro); Calchas (La Belle Hélène); Daneüs in Salieri's Les Danaïdes; Noye (Noye's Fludde); Bartley (Riders to the Sea); Pirate King (Pirates of Penzance); Pooh-Bah (The Mikado); Sam (Trouble in Tahiti); Janitor/Clerk in WNYO's production of Kommilitonen!; Father (Hansel & Gretel); and new works at the Tête a Tête festival;

On the concert platform, his repertoire includes: Bach's St John Passion and Christmas Oratorio; Monteverdi's Vespers of 1610; Handel's Messiah; Mozart and Faure Requiems; and Vaughan Williams’ Sea Symphony.

Recent highlights include: Count Almaviva (Le Nozze di Figaro) with Spira Mirabilis; and returning to Longborough festival for their production of Götterdämmerung.
